چکیده

Similar to previous video coding standards, transform and quantization are employed in the most recent video coding standard High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), and there exist a large number of transform coefficients being quantized to zeros. In order to reduce the computations in transform and quantization, a novel prediction algorithm is designed to early detect all-zero 4 4 blocks prior to transform and quantization. A theoretical analysis is performed on the 4 4 Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and the related quantization functions in HEVC; consequently, two sufficient conditions to early detect all-zero 4 4 blocks are derived and the proposed prediction algorithm is developed while balancing the detection efficiency and computational overheads. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is able to efficiently predict all-zero 4 4 blocks and reduce redundant DCT and quantization computations while maintaining the same coding performance in terms of video quality and bit rates. 2014 Elsevier Inc. An all-zero blocks early detection method for high-efficiency video coding

The High Efficiency Video Coding has a significant compression performance benefit versus previous standards. Thanks to the high efficiency prediction tools, blocks with all-zero quantized transform coefficients are quite common in HEVC. The computation load of transform and quantization can be remarkably reduced if the all-zero blocks can be detected prior to transform and quantization. Based ...

Early detection algorithms for 4×4 and 8×8 all-zero blocks in H.264/AVC

H.264 is the latest HDTV video compression standard, which provides a significant improvement in coding efficiency at the cost of huge computation complexity. Provided that discrete cosine transform coefficient(DCT) blocks can be quantized to all zeros, the process of transform and quantization on this all-zero block(AZB) can be skipped, which will reduce significant redundant computations. In ...

Compressed Domain Scene Change Detection Based on Transform Units Distribution in High Efficiency Video Coding Standard

Scene change detection plays an important role in a number of video applications, including video indexing, searching, browsing, semantic features extraction, and, in general, pre-processing and post-processing operations. Several scene change detection methods have been proposed in different coding standards. Most of them use fixed thresholds for the similarity metrics to determine if there wa...

Low Complexity Quadtree based All Zero Block Detection Algorithm for HEVC

High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is a proposed video compression standard, a successor to H.264/MPEG-4 AVC (Advanced Video Coding). It aims to substantially improve coding efficiency compared to H.264/AVC High Profile, in which transform unit (TU) has been added as one of the key advanced features, at the expense of traversal computation of transform and quantization quadtree. To release the...

Improved Motion Estimation Using Early Zero-Block Detection

We incorporate the early zero-block detection technique into the UMHexagonS algorithm, which has already been adopted in H.264/AVC JM reference software, to speed up the motion estimation process. A nearly sufficient condition is derived for early zero-block detection. Although the conventional early zero-block detection method can achieve significant improvement in computation reduction, the P...
